• Trading activity softened further in April, with total volumes across ACCU and SMC markets declining to 1.95 million units (down 18% month-on-month and 53% year-on-year).
• Despite weaker participation, prices firmed through the month, with Generic spot ACCUs rising from $36.30 to a high of $37.80 – the strongest level since late January.
• The divergence between softer volumes and stronger pricing points to a shift in buyer behaviour, with participation more selective and distributed across the compliance year rather than concentrated around the March compliance deadline.
• SMC activity remained limited, with approximately 100,000 units transacted across nine OTC trades.
• Policy developments continued to shape sentiment, including the expiry of low-uptake methods and the approval of new Savanna Fire Management methods, which introduce mechanisms expected to smooth future issuance profiles.
