Highlights from the ACCU Market Monthly Update for April 2026
Trading activity softened further in April, with total volumes across ACCU and SMC markets declining to 1.95 million units (down 18% month-on-month and 53% year-on-year).
Despite weaker participation, prices firmed through the month, with Generic spot ACCUs rising from $36.30 to a high of $37.80 – the strongest level since late January.
The divergence between softer volumes and stronger pricing points to a shift in buyer behaviour, with participation more selective and distributed across the compliance year rather than concentrated around the March compliance deadline.
SMC activity remained limited, with approximately 100,000 units transacted across nine OTC trades.
Policy developments continued to shape sentiment, including the expiry of low-uptake methods and the approval of new Savanna Fire Management methods, which introduce mechanisms expected to smooth future issuance profiles.
