Highlights from the ACCU Market Monthly Update for March 2026
Subdued conditions persisted through March, marking a soft conclusion to the compliance period.
Total volumes across ACCU and SMC eased to 1.95 million units (down from ~2.5 million in January and February), supporting the view compliance demand was more evenly distributed across the 2025–26 cycle.
Generic spot ACCUs traded rangebound, with the market hitting $36.90 (12 Mar) before closing $36.30 (up $0.05 m/m).
SMC activity remained elevated (though below February’s highs) and pricing continued to track closely with ACCUs, reflecting growing integration of SMCs into compliance strategies.
With surrender now largely complete, attention is shifting to forthcoming Safeguard liability data from the Clean Energy Regulator as a potential near-term catalyst.
